We will celebrate one year in our new space at The P.I.T in the Los Sures neighborhood of Williamsburg. Join us at 411 South 5th Street from 6PM-10PM and witness introverted XFR members desperately attempt emotional alchemy by turning their niche obsessions into new projects and exclusive merch! We’ll be showing off our favorite tapes that we’ve digitized over the last year, holding a raffle with fabulous prizes, and eating and drinking with friends before the live music starts at 8pm– featuring P.I.T. founder Jim McHugh (Sunwatchers, Drunken Foreigner Band) and Cool Whip (with XFR Member Brendan Allen)!

Last year was the beginning of a huge transition for XFR Collective- the loss of its long time home at member and co-founder Andrea Callard’s downtown Manhattan apartment where so much of XFR Collective came into being. Leaving that space wasn’t just about changing our base location, but also about changing the core of XFR. Andrea’s patience, generosity and pasta helped grow XFR Collective into what it is today. We knew that if we wanted to keep going and keep creating a community around audiovisual archiving for underserved creators, we would have to find a new, publicly accessible space. That’s when member Brendan recommended we work with P.I.T. founder Jim McHugh on renting out a space for XFR Collective’s new base.

One year on and we have done so much at our new home at The P.I.T.! A screening celebrating our long term partners Colab, Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Potato Wolf; installing a new tape digitization rack; the start of our First Saturdays spearheaded by member Kelly; meeting the neighborhood at the South 5th Street block party; screening works by our visitors from Mali as part of a State department grant put together by members Andrea and Walter; our first intern Hannah- and with your help, we can do so much more!

Come hang with us in person on Saturday April 22! You can support us with: your presence, through wildly generous cash or PayPal donations, by purchasing raffle tickets ($20 will get you three!), tipping at the snack bar, buying merch, or setting up a transfer partnership with us at $25/tape.

Can’t make it in person? You can support us through our donation page or through our newly launched Bonfire store with online exclusive merch! Find totes, mugs and shirts featuring original designs lovingly created by XFR Collective members. All proceeds help us fund our low to no cost tape digitization and education efforts. When you give a XFR Bunny Mug a home, you’re also helping us preserve hundreds of hours of unique analog content from marginalized creators and to educate future audio-visual archivists on handling at-risk media. Hope to see you there!
